About
Stámés
The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) campuses are located in Stó:lō Téméxw, the territory of the Stó:lō, “people of the river,”
who also call themselves xwélmexw.
As guests, we are grateful and honoured to
live, learn, and work on this land.
We respectfully offer this website as our contribution to decolonizing and Indigenizing
the academy, and we reaffirm our
continuing commitment to reconciliation.
This website is a collaboration between the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV), and primarily Stó:lō creatives (artists) of works located at UFV. It has been produced with the direction of Stó:lō Elders, Knowledge Keepers, cultural advisors, and subject experts. With this guidance, and respecting cultural teachings, we have approached this project with good minds and hearts, and the best of intentions.
We hope that this living digital portal will provide a home
for Indigenous voices by contributing to the repatriation of traditional knowledge. We are humbled to be able to use this website to engage with our visitors and share the constantly emerging, inclusive stories that reflect the dynamic Stó:lō culture. However, acknowledging the effects of colonialism, and respecting the wishes of Elders and Knowledge Keepers, we present only information that has been identified as appropriate to share with a wider audience.
